Facial Fat Grafting at Plastic + Hand
We all age and lose volume in the face. Injectable fillers can smooth the creases and wrinkles around the nose and mouth or add volume to the cheek area. However, many women and men are opting for facial fat grafting to enhance the contours of their face.
With training from top medical centers, Plastic + Hand surgeons have the depth of experience and skills necessary to perform your facial fat grafting safely and successfully… all right here in Maine.
What does facial fat grafting involve?
With facial fat grafting, your plastic surgeon gently removes a small amount of fat from your own abdomen or thigh area and injects it into facial areas to improve volume loss around the eyes, cheeks, or jawline. Using blunt cannulas (1 mm hollow tubes with a blunt end and a small hole through which the fat comes out) the fat is injected as little droplets throughout the areas of facial hollowness.
Benefits to facial fat grafting include results that can last substantially longer than injections or other fillers. In addition, patients with allergies or sensitivities to product ingredients in fillers benefit from using their own excess fat.
Plastic + Hand’s fat grafting procedure is performed at the Plastic + Hand Surgery Center in an AAAHC- and AAAASF-certified operating room.
What should I expect after facial fat grafting?
While results vary from patient to patient, the main issue with facial fat grafting is swelling. During the first couple of days, you may have slight discomfort and some swelling or bruising. Swelling may take from one to several weeks to resolve completely; bruising usually lasts from one to two weeks depending on how much fat has been used.
Rest assured that Plastic + Hand surgeons will work with you to assess your needs for recovery time.
Who are the best candidates for facial fat grafting?
Healthy adults who have begun to lose volume in the face are good candidates for facial fat grafting.
